It’s that time of year again when Care Home Idol is a hot topic at each of our care homes. Care Home Idol is an annual national competition run by carehome.co.uk which is designed to highlight the lighter and fun side of the amazing people who are part of the care home sector.

Whether it’s a song or a dance or something completely different, all of us at RCH Care Homes are excited to see the entries our homes will submit this year. As we eagerly await this year’s videos, why not sit back with a cup of tea and watch the brilliant modern twist on Oliver Twist produced by Maidstone Care Centre and titled ‘What the Dickens’ which had them crowned winners in 2015.

Beating out all of the entries from other care homes up and down the country in 2015, Maidstone’s tongue in cheek film even made it onto the national news with ITV News visiting the Kent based care home to film a piece about it. To add the icing onto their cake, Colin Adams, the modern-day Oliver Twist himself, also won Best Actor at an awards ceremony hosted by Maidstone Care Centre at the Avenue Theatre. From stealing laptops to stealing the nation’s heart, the cheeky chappie’s skills appear to have been wasted in the army…although maybe all of those single women he told us about would disagree…

To our current residents and staff, you’ve seen how high the bar is set and it’s your turn to leap over it! Good luck all, we can’t wait to see what you bring to the table this year – and, at least, you can be safe in the knowledge that the wicked Mrs Briggs won’t take back half of your portion! Stay tuned for some sneak peaks of RCH’s upcoming videos.

The deadline for entries for this year’s competition is early January and all performances must have occurred at the respective care home between 1st January 2018 – early January 2019. An external judge will then announce the 2019 winners on 1st February 2019.
