RCH Care Homes Launches New Dementia Training Programme

Knowledge is key, and compassion and commitment are something that the RCH Teams are already specialists in.

As part of our Dementia Strategy and the commitment and continuation of the development and training for our teams, RCH Care Homes Director of Care & Quality Angela Gibson recently launched the new internal dementia training programme D.O.V.E.S

‘I am delighted to announce the launch of the Dementia DOVES (Development through Observation, Validation, Enrichment, and sharing of Knowledge with others) Development program for all RCH Staff. The aim of the training and the D.O.V.E.S within each of our care settings is to guide and strengthen of our teams and develop their understanding and perspective of dementia. The training will support them to promote excellence in dementia care practices within each of their specific areas of the homes.’

This RCH developmental programme will work towards creating a small team of ‘Dementia DOVES’ working across all areas of each of our homes, including Nurses, Senior care staff, Care workers, Catering staff and Ancillary staff.

The programme consists of 10 individual training session co-developed and designed by dementia expert Timothy Forester-Morgan, Director of the Dementia Training Company. The programme is mapped to tier two of the Dementia Training Standards Framework (Skills for Health and Health Education England in partnership with Skills for Care 2018 ).

Brentwood Care Centre’s Dementia Ambassador Grace, was one of the first to attend the new training, she said, ‘I found the first initial training really informative and I’ve really enjoyed developing my knowledge and skills in this first session. I’m looking forward to supporting the team at Brentwood and sharing my knowledge and best practices within each department within our home.’
