Cow Boy Hats and Boots were donned when Maidstone Care Centre Recreated the Wild West

On a particularly sunny afternoon in April, Maidstone Care Centre buzzed with excitement as the staff prepared for a special event. It was no ordinary day; it was time for the much-anticipated Country and Western themed afternoon.

With boundless creativity and dedication, the staff transformed every nook and cranny of the home into a vibrant homage to the Wild West. Bales of hay dotted the corridors, and the lounge was magically turned into a rustic saloon, complete with swinging doors and a makeshift bar.

As the residents and their families arrived, they were greeted with smiles and laughter. Each resident had their very own “wanted” poster, proudly displayed, adding a touch of authenticity to the festivities.

The air was filled with the aroma of hearty country fare, and moonshine flowed as everyone gathered to celebrate. A dancing cow, much to the delight of the attendees, boogied its way around the room, adding an extra element of whimsy to the occasion.

Themed games and activities abounded, from lassoing competitions to lively square dances led by the talented local group, The Experience. Residents, staff, and families alike embraced the theme wholeheartedly, donning cowboy hats, boots, and bandanas with gusto.

Among the crowd, Georgia and Lou, the award-winning Lifestyle Team, beamed with pride as she witnessed the joyous spectacle. With meticulous planning and a keen understanding of the residents’ interests, she and her team had once again created a magical experience for all to enjoy.

“We believe in creating moments of joy and connection,” Lou explained. “Every event, every activity, is thoughtfully curated to ensure that there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s a spirited line dance or a gentle yoga session, we strive to nurture both the body and the soul.”

The Lifestyle Team at the home are always thinking outside of the box when it comes to ensuring that there is never a dull moment at the Nursing and Residential Dementia Care Home, it is no wonder that they were recognised for their dedication and specialist skills with a National Great British Care Award in 2023.

The weekly lifestyle calendar is planned based upon the resident’s interests and hobbies, and includes physical and cognitive based activities to support emotional and physical wellbeing.

Award winning Lifestyle Lead Georgia explains, “we take great care to plan each event to ensure that there is something for everyone to enjoy. We ensure that there are activities which are both physical and mentally stimulating. We also like to think outside the box with events like today’s theme Country and Western day to having a Belly Dancer instructor to help with our ‘Move it or lose it’ sessions. There is truly never a dull moment here at the home.”
