Romford Care Home Welcomes a Famous New Resident for Christmas

Romford Care Home, in Neave Crescent welcomed a special new resident in the weeks running up to Christmas, when Father Christmas and his elves moved their workshop into the home’s summer lodge in the garden.

The Nursing and Dementia home welcomed the team of elves to turn the summer lodge into a winter lodge, perfect for meeting Father Christmas and enjoying Christmas themed activities and fun!

For the dedicated team at the home, the residents, family, friends and the local community are an integral part of the home.

With the current cost of living crisis, the team felt a fitting way to recognise this and to bring a bit of relief  was to organise a Christmas grotto for the children of the local community, whilst also raising funds for St Francis Hospice, a charity close to the hearts of everyone at the home.

Customer Relations Manager Tracy Smith, helped organised Father Christmas’s stay, ‘It’s so lovely to be able to open the home up to the younger generation and be able to support our local community and also Saint Francis Hospice. The residents really enjoy when the children come into the home and it’s lovely to see everyone interacting and something we hope to do more of in the future.’

The aim of the Grotto was to raise fund for Saint Francis Hospice whilst getting in to the spirit of Christmas. The grotto was open for a total of five days and welcomed local school children, the younger members of the resident’s families and children from all over the local community. Every child had the opportunity to visit Father Christmas, take part in Christmas activities and receive a special gift; there was no charge for this but donations to the hospice were welcomed.

These types of events are a regular occurrence at Romford Care Home and are driven by the home’s General Manager Michelle Di Bella’s passion for family and community, “We are very pleased to be able to do something that is intergenerational and supports both local families and the residents alike. We chose Saint Francis Hospice as the Hospice is very close to our hearts and who we work in partnership with to ensure people receive the best care possible at Romford Care Home. “
