Last Friday, the 25th of February Romford Care Home officially launched their monthly Dementia Café.
The Nursing, Dementia Nursing and Residential Dementia home in Neave Crescent, Romford have certainly started 2022 with a focus of giving back and supporting their local community.
The home already has strong links with its local hospice and food bank, and they also run a monthly Blue Light Café on the first Friday of every month for local blue light first responders in the Havering area.
The monthly service is open to anyone living with or supporting a loved one with a Dementia who can come along, enjoy a friendly chat over a cup of coffee or tea in one of the homes our social lounges.
Tracy Smith, the home’s Customer Relations Manager shared the inspiration behind the new monthly service, “at Romford Care Home we are dedicated to supporting our local community, especially those living with or supporting a loved one with a Dementia. Regular events such as the Dementia Café help us to create opportunities which enable our experienced and professional team here at the home to offer advice and guidance in a supportive and relaxed environment and above all else, are here to listen.”
To mark the occasion of the first Dementia Cafe, the home welcomed Havering Mayor, Cllr John Mylod. Lifestyle Assistant Hayley Sullivan, captured everyone’s excitement that the Mayor was attending, “we were all so excited when we heard that the Mayor was coming to open our Dementia Café. I think he enjoyed his time with us, in fact with all of the chatting and laughing it was difficult to tell who was having the most the fun!”
The residents, those who attended the event and the team at Romford Care Home really appreciated the support of Havering’s Mayor, and the fact he enjoyed himself so much meant even more.
What makes the Café special is the experience and knowledge of RCH Care Homes Head of Dementia and Development, Emma Hewat and Romford Care Homes own Dementia Ambassador John Olival, who will be regularly available to attend and support the service.
General Manager Michelle Di Bella, was delighted the home can now offer this service within their local community, “Our monthly Dementia Café will, I’m sure help and support not only those living with Dementia but also their relatives and Carers. Organising this service is something very close to all of our hearts, it is where our family listens to your family.”
