RCH Care Homes celebrated the Nurses across our care homes through #internationalnursesday and to celebrate we wanted to ask the Nurses key questions about their profession.

International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. Each year IND announce a theme and this year it is Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health.

Inspired by ‘A Voice to Lead’ we thought what a better way to honour this year’s theme than hear the voices of the RCH Nursing team. a series of questions. We asked, why did you become a nurse, what do you love about being a nurse and what inspires you?

When asked them what they loved about being a nurse, Michelle said, “It’s about being able to help, to be able to see someone getting better or getting what they need”. Whilst Jenny said, “To make a positive change that helps improve someone’s quality of life and to see people happier, calmer and content”.

We next asked them why they wanted to become a nurse, Mujgan one of the nurses from Romford Care Centre shared a very personal reason, “Both of my parents are Nurses and this made me want to follow in their footsteps. Also growing up my brother had severe Asthma and I always wanted to be able to look after him.”

Finally, we asked the team what inspires them, Jenny part of the RCH Nursing Team said, “I’m inspired within my role and knowing we are making a difference when you see residents getting better, making a recovery which means that they can lead a more comfortable lifestyle.”

Brentwood Care Centre General Manager Torie Sabbarton, herself a Nurse organised a presentation for the Nurses at the home, “International Nurses Day gives us an opportunity to appreciate all those who have maintained their registration through these exceptional times, who have not faltered in the passion for helping others and who care for everyone regardless.”

Our Nursing Teams are the unsung heroes of RCH Care Homes and throughout the day the Nursing Teams in our homes were presented with gifts and speeches from their General Managers and also our Senior Management Team.

Angela Gibson Director of Care and Quality spoke of the groups pride in the RCH Nursing Teams, “Our Nurses and Nursing Associates take a great deal of pride within their profession.  The Nursing teams always go the extra mile to ensure care, compassion and commitment is at the forefront of the care delivered. We are very proud of each and every one of them especially in recent years where they have had to deal with the unknown of COVID 19.”
