Orchard House Care Home Celebrates Diamond Wedding Anniversary with Musical Flare

Orchard House Care Home in Wisbech, Cambridge, takes pride in the vibrant and person-centred lifestyle at the Nursing and Residential Dementia home. A whole-home approach was needed by the dedicated team to ensure that the 60th Wedding Anniversary of beloved couple John and Sheila definitely ‘shone bright like a diamond’, just like their love has done for sixty-plus years!

The dedicated team at Orchard House Care Home, known for their person-centred approach and commitment to creating meaningful experiences, orchestrated a memorable day filled with music, joy, and heartfelt moments.

Led by Lifestyle Lead, Miranda Robinson, the team left no stone unturned to ensure that every aspect of the celebration reflected the unique essence of John and Sheila’s journey together. The happy couple, John and Sheila Petch, wanted to celebrate their day with their family and loved ones.

So, the proficient party planners and dream makers at the home started planning their very special day.

John and Sheila are well-known within the local community, having both worked in schools, Sheila as a Teaching Assistant and John as a Head Master. John was also a former Chairman of Wisbech Football Club.

It was no surprise that there were plenty of loved ones who wanted to share and join in the celebrations.

One element of the day which had to be right was the entertainment. John and Sheila were both members of the local Operatic Society! Lifestyle Lead, Miranda Roberts, ensured a perfect entertainer was found. ‘John and Sheila were long-term members of our local operatic society. A number of our other residents also belonged to the society and we know that a number of members would be coming to the party, so it was essential that we got it right.’

The musical entertainment was provided by Dan who not only sounded great but also impressed with his performance. Miranda said, ‘what was especially lovely is that Dan performed a lot of songs from musicals that John and Sheila had performed in themselves’.

The party, held in the home’s cinema and adorned with 60th Wedding Anniversary themed decorations, provided the perfect backdrop for a celebration filled with love and laughter.

The culinary team at Orchard House Care Home curated a delectable spread of buffet classics and a specially crafted homemade cake, adding to the festive atmosphere and ensuring that every guest’s palate was satisfied.

As you can imagine with a room full of singers, performers, and musical enthusiasts, the choral harmonies filled the room like a beautiful musical wave. There were certainly ‘Goosebumps’ as the happy couple reminisced and sang along to some of their favourite songs.

After the celebrations, Sheila reflected, ‘We’ve truly loved our day! Our guests all enjoyed themselves and said how nice the party was. They couldn’t believe all of the thought and effort that had gone into the party to make sure we could celebrate our 60th Wedding Anniversary in such a special way.’ Sarah Watson, the Home’s General Manager, spoke about the reason special occasions are celebrated like this at the home, ‘Here at Orchard House, every day we strive to ensure we personalize the care and lifestyle for all of the residents.
