When Training Manager Stuart McMahon read in his local newspaper about local Florist and Businessman Peter Graves generously donating his stock to local Care Homes, Charities and Hospitals after being forced to close his stall during the latest National Lockdown, he knew what a wonderful opportunity this would be for the ‘Green Fingered’ residents who lived at the home.

For any Care Home being part of their local Community is vitality important and rewarding for those who live there, Woodlands Care Centre in Cambridge is very proud and privileged with the links and relationships they have built with their local community.

The residents and the team at the Nursing, Dementia and Residential home in Cambridge were overwhelmed when not long after the phone call Mr Graves arrived at the home with an array of beautiful plants.

The arrival of the plants was perfect timing because between the 12th and 18th of April the home was celebrating National Garden week.

Supported by the dedicated team of health care professionals and David, the home’s Gardener the residents have been busily planting and getting the garden ready to enjoy leisurely spring and summer evenings, “I was in my 7th heaven, the one place I love to be is in my garden. I’ve had a beautiful garden all my life and I have loved helping make this one even better.” Helen F- Resident

Glenna Ebreo, Manager of Tennyson, one of the areas within the home spoke about the positive impact of the plants, “We’ve found that the plants, their smell and the variety of colours have been great conversation starters. The beautiful bright colours and the wonderful familiar smells have provoked so many sentimental memories for the residents.”

General Manager Rubina Arunagiri “We have been overwhelmed and grateful for the very thoughtful and generous donation of plants from Mr Graves. Often something as small as a plant can bring so much joy and make such a difference in the lives of people living with Dementia. The residents and team have been working really hard in the gardens, busily planting for National Garden Week. Now we can sit back and enjoy them as they blossom.”
