As part of World Alzheimer’s Day on Monday 21st September, Brentwood Care Centre, one of RCH’s dementia centres for excellence will be holding a Virtual Information Day. The main part of the day will be a Virtual Seminar on Understanding Dementia by RCH’s Head of Dementia Care and Development and leading Dementia expert Paul Smith.
Dementia, its definitions, and the different types (specifically focusing on 5 types) will be the key focus of the online seminar, along with the biological and psychosocial aspects of dementia and how RCH’s holistic approach emphasises seeing the person, not just the disease.
Following the seminar, Paul will be taking and answering live questions. Those attending will also be sent an Understanding Dementia Guide, which partners the seminar. You can register by filling in the form below or email email@example.com for the opportunity to join the seminar.
RCH Care Homes’ Dementia Strategy ‘By Your Side’ is comprised of four key pillars: delivering specialist training, the dining experience and nutrition/hydration, creating a dementia friendly environment, and social engagement.
Since its launch, the ‘By Your Side’ strategy has empowered and enabled the services and their teams to deliver consistently high-quality dementia care to all of their residents living with dementia.
The appointment of Paul Smith, renowned leading dementia expert, as their Head of Dementia Care and Development further highlights the Group’s commitment to providing excellent dementia care.
Paul is a nurse, psychotherapist, author and a researcher who has led on dementia for some of the country’s largest and most successful care groups, “I’m looking forward to bringing passion and years of experience to the group at a time when everyone is committed to the same goal.
There is a real avalanche of dedication, commitment and new talent at all levels within the organisation and I’m looking forward to our journey together”.
Another exciting element to support World Alzheimer’s Day is the virtual Dementia Friends session (hosted by Brentwood Care Centre’s Dementia Champion and Customer Relations Manager Sommer Turner) to help connect members of the local Brentwood community, residents’ families and staff.
This will be the first time that the home based in Larchwood Gardens, Pilgrims Hatch will hold ‘virtual’ Dementia Friends sessions as part of their commitment to making Brentwood Care Centre a Dementia Friendly Community (DFC), supported by the local Brentwood DAA (Dementia Action Alliance).
