Activities & events
Supporting our residents to enjoy every day living at Brentwood Care Centre is a key focus for our dedicated team.
By getting to know each person, we are able to tailor our activities and events to their likes and dislikes as well as activities they may like to try.
No two days are the same here and, alongside our usual daily hobby-based activities, we also like to host events which are a little out of the ordinary.
In addition to keeping fit with our chair-based exercises, baking, quizzes, movie afternoons and our knit and natter club, we also take great pleasure in welcoming visiting entertainers, schools, nurseries, Pets As Therapy dogs and groups to our home to enjoy spending time with our residents.
Our team and residents also love pottering around the local garden centre, visiting local attractions, such as country parks and Southend seafront, and getting dressed up for our themed days throughout the year — complete with themed menus and decorations!
Every month our residents also get the chance to take part in their very own special request show on a local radio station. They love choosing their favourite songs and then gather together to hear them played on the radio – where they chat about what they were up to when the songs were first released.

Dementia-friendly activities
Our team takes a considered approach to dementia-friendly activities and meaningful engagement — supporting our residents who live with dementia to still experience happiness, comfort, and contentment.
With an in-depth knowledge of people’s life histories, we are able to encourage positive reminiscence and create a safe and supportive environment where people feel comfortable taking part in both familiar and new activities, trips and events.
We have our own Tovertafel Table which is an innovative magic table, designed for people living with dementia. Fun and interactive games are projected onto the table and the colourful objects respond to hand and are movements – stimulating both physical and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction amongst our residents, team and visitors.

Food & nutrition
We are proud of the high quality of our meals here at Brentwood Care Centre that are carefully designed to be enjoyable whilst providing balanced nutrition to our residents.
They are lovingly cooked and prepared by our in-house catering team and follow the seasons.
Regularly rotating menus ensure we always have meals which cater to our residents’ likes and dislikes, including those who require modified or specialist diets.
To create a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere for our residents to enjoy their mealtimes, our tables are lovingly laid with crisp table linen, menus clearly showing what’s on offer and cutlery and dinnerware which supports their independence.

Reviews and ratings
Brentwood Care Centre has a very warm and welcoming feel as soon as you arrive. My mother has settled in very quickly despite a stressful move when her old home closed down. I am extremely happy to see her so settled. Brentwood Care Centre is wonderful!
My mother who sometimes can be somewhat difficult is treated with kindness and respect by the staff. Under the new management, I have found that if you have a problem, you can always talk with them and they deal with the problem almost immediately. Things have improved 100%. The staff are excellent.
Home is very clean and tidy. Dad is very well looked after. He is safe there. Staff are always happy and greet you with a smile and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
I have found all staff, carers, laundry and cleaners to be friendly and ready to help. There is always a cheery ‘hello’ from everyone and admin staff are excellent.
All staff do a superb job. It is an excellent home. My views are listened to and taken into account. The level and quality of response from staff are very good. This is home.
As a resident, I consider I am extremely fortunate that the manager has accumulated a wealth of caring staff that are willing to go that extra mile for the care and contentment of the residents. Thank you.
Very pleasant and the staff are very friendly and kind. Food very good and the care is good.
As ever, the constructive comments of the CQC are welcomed and, though I am deeply saddened to know that CQC have rated our home as Requires Improvement, I am wholeheartedly confident that our team are already delivering the desired results, going above and beyond the highest standards set by RCH, and CQC. As reflected in the report, we have already identified areas for improvement, and I have instigated a robust action plan to ensure the continual progress of the home. Many improvements have already been made, and as CQC highlighted in the report, CQC were pleased to see the open culture within the home, from both a relatives and staff perspective, as well as seeing new adaptions and décor to reflect the advancements in knowledge in supporting people with dementia.
The health and wellbeing of residents is always our number one priority and we are continuously working to develop and improve upon the quality of care we provide. We will keep residents and relatives updated on progress every step of the way.
Your understanding is always appreciated and I look forward to welcoming you to our home.
