As August ushers in National Allotment Week, Orchard House Care Home is celebrating the success of their thriving allotment, a key contributor to the Feed Fenland Project. After weeks of alternating wet and warm weather, the allotment has flourished, transforming from a collection of seedlings into a vibrant garden brimming with fresh produce.
The journey has been a true community effort, with both staff and residents of Orchard House Care Home actively participating in every stage of the process. From sowing seeds in the home’s greenhouse to planting them in the allotment, and now, reaping the rewards of their hard work, everyone has had a hand in the project.
Recently, residents, along with Home Manager Sarah and Lifestyle Team, visited the allotment to harvest the latest batch of vegetables. The group proudly handed over a generous supply of produce to the Feed Fenland Project team. The harvest included everything from crunchy carrots to ripe tomatoes, each representing the care, dedication, and teamwork that has gone into this initiative.
Lifestyle Lead Miranda shared the home’s enthusiasm, stating, “It’s been wonderful to see our whole home be involve d, from choosing the seeds we grow, patiently nurturing the delicate seedlings, taking the plants to the allotment, and then harvesting them. The best bit is now handing over the produce, knowing it is going to make a difference. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Tesco’s, Little Miracles, and the members of the Fenland Orchard Project for their unwavering support.”
This allotment initiative highlights Orchard House’s commitment to making a positive impact in the community, fostering a supportive environment, and contributing to a cause that benefits everyone involved.
