Lyons’ Corner Houses may not be on the corners of London streets like Tottenham Court Road and Shaftesbury Avenue anymore, but the famous chain of teashops lives on in the memories of our residents who fondly reminisced about their trips to the famous teashops as soon as they saw our team walk through the door in their authentic costumes on Friday 8th March 2019.

Maidstone Care Centre was delighted to join in with Dementia UK’s celebrations for the 10th anniversary of their annual fundraising campaign Time for a Cuppa, an annual tea party which helps fund dementia nurses who provide specialist support to families affected by dementia.

Friday 8th March 2019 saw our care home which provides both residential dementia care and nursing care host a Lyons’ Corner House Tea Party for residents and guests alike. With an array of beautifully decorated cakes and drinks available, there was no fear of anyone going hungry during our party; nor was there was any fear of not noticing the party was occurring as our excellent activities team dressed up in the famous outfits the staff at a Lyons’ Corner House wore back in the day (hats and all) to serve our residents their tea and cakes.

Everyone loved the theme: shortly after erecting the display which included vintage crockery and pretty table linen, our residents were speaking fondly about their own trips to London when they’d been lucky enough to visit the teahouses. Between giggling over tasty treats, marvelling over the excellent costumes and having a good old gossip over tea in vintage crockery, the tea party was the talk of the home in the days after.

“We have a fantastic activities team (both official and unofficial) who always come up with innovative ideas for activities and events after careful consideration of the experiences and preferences of our residents. Admiral nurses play such a vital role in supporting of both individuals living with dementia and their families, and we’re proud to be able to support them however we can.” – Carol Marsh, Home Manager of Maidstone Care Centre

RCH Care Homes is proud to support such a worthwhile cause and were able to raise £40, all of which will go directly to Dementia UK.
