Patients in local hospitals and hospices, and members of local food banks and homeless charities were delighted to receive a special Easter delivery before Easter Weekend courtesy of residents, staff and families from RCH Care Homes, as well as local businesses in partnership with RCH such as Advanced, Brakes, ABM, Phoenix, Oomph, Gompels, Café IG9, Beau Care, Clini Care, Queens Food & Wine and Marks & Spencer Loughton to name but a few.
Children being treated in Children’s wards in local hospitals and hospices were handed a mountain of 451 Easter eggs either before or on Easter Weekend, another 400 eggs were donated to local food banks and homeless charities, and the remaining 49 of the total 900 collected were handed to surprised patients on Oncology wards and our older community staying on Geriatric wards. Smiles were abundant and spirits were lifted for both patients and staff alike.
Doctors and Nurses were thrilled when they were also offered Easter eggs. A Paediatric Matron observed, “Hospitals aren’t always a lot of fun, especially for a child, so it really brightens their day when they receive a treat. The children and staff were delighted with them!”
A parent commented “It was a really lovely gift: it’s nice for kids to be able to take their minds off their treatment and just eat some chocolate. It was such an enjoyable treat for them.”
Linda Head, Head of Fundraising for BHR, commented: “Thank you for what you have done today. You said you were collecting smiles and that is just what you did!”
Rob Rai, our CEO, remarked “Together with the community around us, we wanted to help bring a smile to the faces of the children in Hospital. This was our way of wishing all the children, and their families an extra special happy Easter with some yummy chocolate. We would also like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and staff at our NHS hospitals that go above and beyond in all that they do”.
[A special mention needs to go to Queens Court Nursing Home and Maidstone Care Centre who donated 355 and 264 eggs respectively. Well done!]
