At Woodlands Care Centre in Cambridge, the sense of family is central, not just for residents but also for their loved ones. This commitment to family was clearly demonstrated when the care home team made sure that resident Brenda could share in the joy of her granddaughter Holly’s wedding, despite not being able to attend in person.
Brenda, who has been a cherished member of the Woodlands community since 2022, holds her family close to her heart. So, when her daughter Kay shared the news of Holly’s upcoming nuptials, the team knew they had to find a way to make Brenda part of the celebration. Understanding how significant this moment was for Brenda, Holly, and the entire family, they rallied together to create a memorable experience.
With Brenda unable to attend the wedding, Holly and her groom Freddie wanted to ensure her beloved grandmother was still part of their special day. The solution? A beautiful, intimate wedding afternoon tea held at Woodlands Care Centre, where Brenda could share in the joy with her family.
Brenda, dressed in her favourite outfit and hat, eagerly awaited the arrival of the bride and groom. As Holly, resplendent in her wedding dress, entered the room alongside her husband Freddie and her parents, Kay and Andrew, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Brenda’s face showed the wonder at the sight of her granddaughter, a moment that will be cherished by all who were present.
The home’s Lifestyle Lead Sarah Taylor helped to ensure that the Brenda and her family had a wonderful day with special memories made, “when Kay, Brenda’s daughter asked us we jumped at the opportunity to make this a special day for everyone. We had fresh flowers, decorations and a cake to make sure that the festivities were that extra special.”
Kay, deeply moved by the effort and care shown by the Woodlands team, expressed her heartfelt thanks: “Our sincerest thanks to all of the staff for making a wonderful effort for Mum on Saturday. It was just perfect; the weather was lovely, and Mum thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful homemade cake!”
The day was a testament to the power of love, family, and community, with the Woodlands Care Centre going above and beyond to create special memories that Brenda and her family will treasure forever.
