Brentwood Care Centre team up with BHR 1287 for 50’s themed music event to mark Dementia Action

To mark Dementia Action Week the residents at Brentwood Care Centre enjoyed a special live song request show with a 1950’s theme, all made possible thanks to the fantastic team at BHR 1287 Hospital Radio.

The hospital radio team, who entertain patients at Basildon and Thurrock Hospital kindly took requests from the residents of Brentwood Care Centre and broadcast them live on air whilst the residents listened on with a 1950’s themed party at the residential and nursing home in Larchwood Gardens. The musical extravaganza took place in the morning and included some wonderful requests, as well as the memories which made each song so special to that person. Requests included Bobby Day’s Rockin’ Robin, which brought back the memories for one resident of her teenage years. Buddy Holly’s Peggy Sue was also a favourite request for another resident because she always loved to dance to it.

Following this, Kristie Baxter (Hotel Services Manager) and Sarah Webber (Senior Customer Relations Manager) from Brentwood Care Centre visited the hospital to support the fantastic tea parties being held on the wards that day. They were delighted to be able to join the hospital radio team to present song requests for patients on the wards for a special joint show with radio station Gateway 97.8 FM, who kindly loaned their air waves especially for this event. The two radio stations joined together for a 3 hour show that day from 1 – 4pm.

Home Manager Sharon Osborne said “We were absolutely thrilled to have the hospital radio team so kindly host this special show for us – the songs they played brought back such special memories for our residents and it was so much fun – we all had a really wonderful morning.”

This fantastic request show now takes place on a monthly basis at the residential and nursing home in Larchwood Gardens.
