Orchard House Nursing Home
Orchard House is a warm and friendly care home where residents are encouraged to live a full and independent life wherever possible. That’s why we keep rules to a minimum and instead promote choice and individuality. This is, of course, all supported by the highest levels of expert care from our well-trained staff. Orchard House is a purpose-built care home and provides general nursing, palliative care and dementia care to 67 residents.
Our home has a lovely location at the heart of the community in Wisbech. You’ll find us in a pleasant residential setting, opposite Ely College. We’re easy to reach by car and there is a regular bus service into Wisbech town centre. Alternate buses on this service go via the local villages.
As a purpose-built care home, Orchard House is fully accessible for wheelchairs and people with disabilities. There is a lift which provides easy access between the two floors.
All of the single en-suite bedrooms are tastefully decorated and feature co-ordinating fabrics to give a real home from home feeling. In addition to our single rooms, we also have four larger bedrooms for married couples. A nurse call system is provided in all rooms, including the en-suites and this facility is also available throughout the home, including WCs and bathrooms. Residents may bring their own TV and computer for their room. We also allow residents to organise and fund their own telephone and Internet access if they wish. Residents may also bring their own mobile phone. Our comfortable communal areas include two lounge/dining rooms and four quiet lounges where residents can socialise or just sit and relax.
Our catering staff make sure residents’ nutritional needs are met by providing a range of delicious throughout the day. There are always two options on the menu and special diets can be catered for. As well as regular meals; drinks and snacks are also available and there are a number of kitchenette facilities throughout the home.If residents wish to have a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities in their rooms, we are happy to arrange this, following a risk assessment.
There is always something to do at Orchard House with a wide range of activities and entertainment available. However, we know that everyone’s tastes are different and so we’ll chat with each resident to find out what they enjoy doing. Our activities include weekly entertainers, movement to music sessions, sing-alongs, games, bingo, art and craft groups and a weekly church service for anyone wishing to attend. We know it’s important for residents to keep in regular contact with their friends and relatives and we welcome visitors anytime. Friends and relatives are often invited to our social events such as the resident’s Christmas party, the summer fair and entertainment evenings.
At Orchard House we pride ourselves on delivering a high standard of care at all times. Our staff work closely with residents to plan and supervise day-to-day care. Residents may retain their own GP but if this is not practical, the home’s GP calls weekly or more frequently if required. The community nurses and primary care team staff will also visit residential care residents when needed.Appointments with opticians, dentists, chiropodists and hairdressers can all be arranged at the home.We ensure that all of our staff are well trained and we make sure that their training is up-to-date, in line with the Care Quality Commission’s regulations.
